As a taster for the forthcoming Specsavers Christmas Stages Rally on December 28th, the second annual Media Day took place at Croft Circuit today (20th December) and once again, the elements delivered the traditional winter weather!

Early morning frost and black ice greeted the crews who had been invited along for the benefit of the local media with Scotsman John Bogie travelling down from Dumfries in his immaculate MG Metro 6R4.

Also in attendance was Gateshead's Andy Fenwick in his Mitsubishi and event sponsor David Stockton in his Subaru Impreza. Richmond driver Mark Constantine arrived a little later in his brand new Vauxhall Corsa, as did Leeming's Kevin Procter who had encountered problems with getting the Motoscope Subaru started on such a cold morning.

Sadly, the sixth member of the team didn't arrive at all with Tony Bardy stuck in his workshop and unable to attend as it turned out.

The Specsavers Subaru of David Stockton was the first casualty of the day with a broken gearbox being diagnosed leaving the AS Performance team with some Christmas overtime to be had.

Bogie had a scary moment when the throttle cable snapped on the Metro, temporarily jamming it open and Procter did a handful of laps before calling it a day in the Subaru as the snow started to fall.

With the arrival of Tyne Tees Television presenter Andy Kerr and his intrepid cameraman Eric, the pair chatted to drivers both on and off camera including David Stockton, Andy Fenwick and Mark Constantine as well as the winning co driver for the past two years Larry Carter who will take to the wheel himself this year.

Indeed, they hatched a 'spoof' scene with Andy closing his interviews and about to get into his own Corsa road car to drive off when he was accosted and planted into Conny's Corsa and taken on a trip round the stage which was now covered in snow - fully miked up!

Hopefully the piece will go out either Tuesday 21st or Wednesday 22nd on the evening news and sport programme.

Many thanks to all who braved the elements and hopefully, the snow will stay away just long enough for us to enjoy a bright, dry and sunny rally on the day!
